Trace Materials Evidence Submission Guidelines

  • Trace Materials will only work violent crime cases involving death or serious bodily injury;
  • A narrative or case report must be submitted with each case for proper evaluation of evidence submitted and examinations requested;
  • If other probative evidence has been developed (such as conclusive results in other laboratory disciplines; for example: Biology), Trace analysis will not be conducted and the evidence will be returned unworked to your agency;
  • Submit standards (paint/polymer/fiber/glass) when a comparison between a known and unknown is necessary;
  • Consult the Evidence Submission Manual before collecting or submitting evidence;
  • Contact the Trace Materials Crime Laboratory Analyst Supervisor should you need assistance.
